Pow Wow

The March Denver Pow Wow is the biggest and best know but there are others, one being the Friendship Pow Wow held at the Denver Art Museum. It is smaller, less commercial and still very awe inspiring. I was able to get very close to these dancers, close enough to show them my camera and nod in a gesture to ask if its ok for me to take their pictures. Unlike the March pow wow, where I have to pay for a photographers permit, here when the individual dancers nodded back to me I knew it was ok for me to capture the very mesmerizing movements of the mens fancy dance and the mens northern traditional dance. I had to be careful not to obstruct the view of other spectators so I stayed in the corners and near the ground. Everyone was excited to see the elegance of this pow wow and to hear the meaning behind each dance.
